State Cup 2024

Another nailbiter tournament. State Cup is a big tournament, played in multiple locations over multiple weekends. They went into their third game tied for 2nd in the bracket they started in. Against the other second place time. A win would mean advancing. They battled, but the game ended in a 1-1 tie, so it went […]
Gluten Free Carrot Cake

Hazel made the fluffiest lightest best cake I’ve had in the nearly 20 years I’ve been eating gluten free. Was delicious and you absolutely could have served it without mentioning the gf part and no one would have ever suspected. Really good, and carrot cake is my favorite so I really enjoyed it. We got […]
Mumu

Introducing MuMu.Last September Margot and I returned from a soccer practice to be greated by a cat. He was not like the normal feral cats we see, he was rubbing our legs and being very affectionate. Very pet-like so we let him in the house so we could try and find his owner. He immediately […]

Christmas

Lovely celebration in our little home. I’ve only cooked a few big holiday meals, and I think this was only my second time cooking for Christmas, and I enjoyed it a lot. Hazel made a delicious delicious gluten free chocolate cake. From scratch, not a mix, with maybe the best frosting I’ve had. She was […]
Heartbreaker Tournament

A bit of a heartbreaker tournament this weekend. Margot’s team played a tournament in Costa Mesa. They played incredibly well. I’m so impressed by how hard they worked and how much they’ve improved in the last 4 months or so since all the turmoil occurred. They really came together and played incredibly well this weekend. […]
Kim’s Birthday

Kim’s birthday is this month, and since her mom has been out of the country I knew she’d be craving Asian dishes. It’s always a little intimidating cooking dishes that someone grew up with, especially when it’s not what you cook regularly. But I was super happy with how everything came out. #39/52 – Green […]
Christmas Tree

Our ornaments aren’t color coordinated or anything. We get most of them from my mom, who tries to get them to match interests, and we get many of them on our trips. Our first Christmases we had a tiny tree, and only a few ornaments , so we went to the dollar store and bought […]
AYSO Fall

Hazel played fall AYSO this year, and had a good time with a good bunch of girls.
Thanksgiving

Since the girls have the week off school, we normally try and travel for Thanksgiving. But Kim had some work and Margot had some party invites, so we hung out locally and I took the opportunity to make my first full thanksgiving meal in maybe 15+ years, and the first ever with the girls. Took […]
Dead Poets Society

Hazel and I watched Dead Poets Society tonight. Tears were shed. Hazel cried too. Apparently in one of her videos for the album Tortured Poets Department, Taylor Swift had two of the stars from Dead Poets Society appear, as a deliberate shout out to the movie. This made Hazel curious about the movie, so I […]
Hazel and Margot hunting for dirt

So cute On Mon, Jul 13, 2015, 09:50 Kim <kimluujennings> wrote: Hazel was inspired by a Sid the Science kid cartoon and decided she wanted to "hunt for dirt and investigate what’s in dirt." Hazel’s backpack contained a notebook, pen, and magnifying glass. Margot was the sidekick helper; Margot’s backpack was empty.
Surf Soccer Fall 2024

Fall season. It was an interesting season. New coach, players quitting, new players joining. But the girls have really improved a ton as a team and it’s been fun to watch. The last few weeks they have played great. Winning some games and losing some games, but even when they have lost they have been […]
Christmas Decorations

Margot is very excited to decorate for Christmas. Yesterday she decided to take a plain white ceramic dinosaur and make him into Santasaurus. The wings are so he can go help deliver presents. Santasaurus is now my favorite Christmas decoration
Cactus Halloween

Margot Made her own costume
Pottery

The girls recently took a 4 day pottery class at a place in Pasadena. I’m really impressed with what they made!
Baking

At this point, Hazel is just as good at baking as me. Delicious homemade gluten free Cinnamon rolls. This weekend she made blondies and lemon curd cookies. No exaggeration I would put the lemon curd cookies in the top five cookies I’ve ever eaten.
MGA

I’ve been driving the MGA a fair bit lately, but since it only seats two it seems I’ve mostly been using it solo or taking Margot to soccer. Hazel loves the MG and has been asking for a drive so she and I went to breakfast, taking a long route home.
Symphony

Margot had her big end of the year cello concert with the @pghyouthsymph . First time performing on stage in a big auditorium.
Note from Margot
Margot’s story

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Piper. Her teacher sent her to Adventureville, where there were a lot of adventures, to study friendship. At that point, she didn’t really care for friendship. Her pet cat told her just try it. So she tried it. “Hi!” she said. Then she screamed and ran […]
Monster
Covid-19

Margot and Hazel are playing in the living room, and our of nowhere Margot says, in a uncharacteristically serious little voice looks at Hazel and says: " I know right now is a tough time for a lot of people, so thank you for making my life better right now"
Hazel painted this

She said it reminded her of Tahiti

Words

Hazel is an avid, avid reader, and devours books. She seems to pick up and use new words really well too. The funny part is that she frequently uses words that she is learned from a book, but probably hasn’t heard much, so she uses the word correctly but frequently pronounces it completely off.

Saving

I told the kids I’d give them $3 each for the field festival. Hazel wanted five. I said no but she could make up the difference with her piggy bank. Margot said she would take money out of her piggy bank. Hazel said “no, I’ll just keep the three and save my piggy bank money […]

Margot painted a rainbow.

She painted it with raindrops because "you can’t have a rainbow with out rain" which was something we had talked about on Moo’rea
Margot and Mommy in Moorea
Making a wish

I read Margot a Dora the Explorer book and at the end, it says to make a wish. Kim: Margot, make a wish! Margot: ok, I wish for a wonderful mommy. Yay, I have one! Maybe the sweetest spontaneous sentiment ever said to me. 🙂
Very successful birthday gift
Fairy wings

Me in the bathroom, door closed. From the hall I hear Margot: Daddy, are you almost done? Me " Yes, are you ready to go to the store? " Margot " yes, I have fairy wings on" Me "Ok" I walk out. ALL she has on is fairy wings.
