Absolutely legendary.

I’ve been fortunate to go to a lot of concerts over the years, especially in the 1990-2010 range. And there have always been a handful of shows that have stood above the others as memorable to me. Tonight David Byrne (Talking Heads) put on a show that easily joined the very shortest list of most memorable shows ever. The songs, the stage, everything was just amazing. When we left I think my eyes were dry because I wasn’t blinking enough. I loved it.

When I was in middle school, and just starting to get into music, it was mostly 60’s rock bands. Then I started listening to a college radio station, and rapidly got into I guess what would be post-punk early alternative? Talking Heads were among my favorites and have remained in heavy rotation in my music for 35+ years. Outlasting a lot of bands that I loved but rarely listen to anymore. Literally going from tapes I recorded off the radio to CDs to MP3 to streaming but remaining favorites. At one point in college I got a copy of the stop making sense concert movie on VHS, and literally wore it out.

Although I have seen a lot of shows from legendary bands, Talking Heads didn’t tour after 1984 and I never saw David Byrne, even though a few of his solo albums got a fair bit of play. Tonight was amazing, and for a 35+ year fan, I’m not embarrassed to admit I got a little emotional at one point.
But honestly, even if you’d never heard their music, it was a fabulous show. Just awesome.

Day 2!

After Thursday’s David Byrne (Talking Heads) amazing show with Kim, I couldn’t sleep. Ended up staying up way way way later than I should have, just buzzing and thinking about the show. The girls have listened to the Talking Heads all their lives, and the show was just amazing, and I was wishing they had seen it. David Byrne is 73, so who knows how many tours will happen. I even was looking at shows in different cities.

So I took them last night. I managed to get three tickets, and they were absolutely amazing tickets. Front row of the first mezzanine, pretty much dead center. I was in heaven, and Hazel and Margot loved it. There was such a positive buzzing energy in the air. People were up and dancing with so much energy the mezzanine felt like a rolling earthquake. Hazel and Margot were beaming and dancing and singing along. Super super fun.

Much of the show was repeated from the night before, but some songs were switched out. I loved hearing the different songs, and loved the repeats and just watching the entire show again. Really just incredible.

We took a road trip after Christmas, but it turned out to be one of the wettest weeks on the west coast. Tons and tons of rain, including some of the heaviest rain I’ve seen in a long time, and snow. This changed our plans

Winner winner! We’re in Bend, OR, on a last minute trip. Went to an outdoor gear shop and spotted a fun looking place with a collection of food trucks. The girls wanted to eat dinner there, so we did, and discovered it was also trivia

Second part of our local-ish staycation, a visit to an old favorite place. 28 years I’ve been coming here and loving it. A couple days of camping and climbing. Gravity felt strong to me, but it felt great to knock some rust off and get

As part of our Asia Trip, we spent a few days in South Korea.

Our last week of our asia trip was spent in Japan.

We spent two weeks in Taiwan, and had a great time, was super fun to watch the girls navigate a new country, and to use the mandarin they have been studying for years now.

Even after 16 days in the Grand Canyon, Margot asked if there were any cool hikes we could do on our way home from Flagstaff. So we did a kind of really silly long way home extension and hiked Wire Pass Gulch in Grand Escalante

Scorpion story: After rigging our rafts the night before launching down the Canyon, we went to Marble Canyon Lodge for dinner. They have a gift shop, and Margot fell for a stuffed scorpion. She said ” I hope we see a scorpion!! “ Me: “Well,

I have a bit of a reputation amongst some friends for having somewhat ambitious travel arrangements. But even by my standards, today felt a little crazy. We woke at 4:45 a.m. Saturday Japan time. Took Metro about an hour to see the tuna auction and
