We have a family tradition of the birthday person getting to choose birthday dinner. Hazel chose sushi, but specifically said that she wanted to make it. And she asked to make panna cotta, so she and I spent a good chunk of the afternoon in the kitchen, making a pile of sushi and a vanilla panna cotta with a raspberry honey compote and fresh raspberries.
Great fun teaching her to roll sushi, and she was loving it. She wouldn’t let Kim in the kitchen because she wanted everything to be a surprise.
