Muffins

She does love, love, love to cook, and it’s great for math practice.

Today I asked her "If we have 12 muffins in our tin, and 4 people in our family, how many muffins could we each have if we were sharing equally? so what is 12 divided by 4"

She thought for just a second or two, and then said "Three?"

I said "yes, how did you figure it out"

She said, "well, I saw that the muffin pan has 4 cups this way, and three cups this way, and 12 total. if this is your row, you get three, and if this is mommy’s row she gets three, and three for me and three for margot. "

I told her good job, then asked her, "if we had a muffin tin with 16 spaces, how many would each person get? so Whats 16 divided by 4?"

Without hesitation or enough time to count, she said "four!"

Great for fractions too. But slower for me getting things done.

She helped me make some strawberry mint pops the other day. Maybe tied for my favorite flavor so far.

Funny enough, I thought they were very good. Kim and Margot did too, but Hazel didn’t like the cinnamon. She asked if we could make blueberry next time.

Margot has been drawing friendly monsters, and I’m really impressed. She drew this for Kim for mother’s Day.

Ran into this guy outside PetSmart, and now Margot wants a Tegu lizard.

Not a great picture, but this morning I woke up to the sound of someone working in the kitchen. A bit later Hazel bursts into the room proudly announcing “I made crepes!”

Hazel had her first game with the school soccer team. She played super well, especially considering it’s been 4+ months since she played a game.

Margot isn’t a fan of most cakes, so she got po tat (custard tart) for her birthday.

Hazel is home sick today. She texted me this: I’m stuck at homeSuper-duper sickNo places to roamI wish this was a trickI’m so boredThis house is so quietOutside birds soaredWhat rhymes with quietI’ll be better by tonightI wish we had more guacamoleBy friday I’ll be

We took the girls for the long promised and long overdue ear piercing, and then for some nice indian food after.

Hazel had a poetry assignment for school. They had to create a book with a certain number of different styles of poems, including haikus, cinquain, diamante, ballads, ode, and elegy.

We did Tuesday tacos, and Margot was playing with my phone while we waited. She said she was trying to look mysterious.

If anyone eats gluten free or cooks for someone that does, highly recommend two things: 1) Get yourself the pictured cookbook. The recipes aren’t simple, they involve a lot of mixing your own flour blends, but they have all been fantastic. 2) Get yourself a
