Kayaking Newport beach with the girls and Katy

Had a great time today with my sister Katy, visiting from Texas. We went kayaking, checked out the sea lions. Stopped and played on a beach. Followed with delicious burgers. My sister was vegetarian for almost her whole life, so I’m still getting used to watching her eat meat. =) Katy’s first time kayaking. Margot’s […]

Tantrum

Huge tantrumHazel mentioned her cake on the drive home, and Margot wants cake

Muffins

She does love, love, love to cook, and it’s great for math practice. Today I asked her "If we have 12 muffins in our tin, and 4 people in our family, how many muffins could we each have if we were sharing equally? so what is 12 divided by 4" She thought for just a […]

Crib

Margot is very very upset at me for taking the crib apart. She keeps wailing "stay! Stay!" She hasn’t used it in weeks.

Freckles

Hazel is starting to get some freckles

Father’s Day 2016

“It’s more conceivable that I could measure out all the oceans on the earth, a broken teacup at a time, then grasp the amount of love I feel for my” little girls. My friend David wrote this about someone in his life, and I’ve re-read the line about 50 times since he posted it, because […]

Uncle Brian

This weekend we say goodbye to my Uncle Brian, who passed away a few weeks ago. This photo was from 2012, the last time I saw him. At the time, the effects of disease had started to become obvious, and physically he had changed a tremendous amount from the man who had danced at our […]

Mr. Rogers

I introduced Hazel to Mr. Rogers this morning for her 20 minutes of videos. She loves it. Makes me happy.

Texas

Hazel was playing with a Winnie the pooh look and find book, when she got to this page, she said "this looks like Texas". We’ve been following the news.

Kidspace Children’s Museum

Dear Zoe, This email is longer than most. My parents took me to a science museum. they have a lot of stuff designed for older kids, like Benjamin and Jennifer’s age, but also plenty for toddlers like us. There was even more, but my dad hadn’t charged the camera battery. First, I got to dig […]

Joshua Tree Beginner trip

Kim and I planned and led a beginner friendly climbing trip to Joshua Tree in Feb. We drove out through rain, but the weather was pretty nice at the park. Cold, but nice. We had fun climbing, ate well, and enjoyed everyone’s company. Aside from some tents trying to join the space program, the weekend […]

Joshua Tree Climbing and Camping

A few months back, my friend from b-school (Alex M.) emailed me and let me know that he had a camping site reserved at Joshua Tree for thanksgiving weekend. Although I rarely climb anymore, Joshua Tree still ranks as one of my favorite places in the universe. Love it. Kim and I spent the weekend of Thanksgiving out there.

Mother’s Day

Kim and I went to Los Angeles for Mother’s Day. It was a nice weekend, Saturday evening we went for a big banquet dinner with Po-Po (grandma) and much of the extended family. Sunday we had a quiet morning, then went to Griffith observatory, with Kim’s mom. We walked around and looked at the exhibits, […]

I miss my Grandpa

My Grandpa passed away last week. I’m really going to miss him. He was an awesome Grandpa. He wrote his own obituary, and I’ve copied it below. JENNINGS Lieutenant General Hal B. Jennings, Jr., M.D., US Army (Retired) passed away on Feb. 12, 2008 at the age of 92. He is survived by wife Flora […]

Misc. Spring paddling

It’s been a crazy spring, lots going on with family, school, and starting a company. I’ve barely had time to sleep, but I find paddling refreshes me in a way nothing else does. I’ve snuck out for a few early mornings and late afternoons, and a couple Saturdays. Most of it has been on familiar […]

Climbing – Random Photos

Climbing is an amazing sport, and one that normally requires you to rely on your partners literally with your life. I think this helps foster the special friendships that build amoung climbers. The long skinney picture is one I took of my friend Jean on Touchstone, a big wall in Zion N.P., Utah. The Picture […]

50 Star Day At Joshua Tree

I’ve never thought of myself as a number chaser, but in March, my friend Tom and I decided to set a goal for our climbing day at Joshua Tree. Inspired by other climbers, we aimed for thirty “stars” but ended up with fifty! With no driving involved, we tackled iconic routes like The Flue, Doublecross, and Sailaway, racing against the setting sun. Each climb brought its own challenges and thrills, pushing us to our limits.
