We can only find one minnie leg warmer

Hazel saw no reason to let asymmetry stop her.
I had a very hard time getting Hazel to nap.

She seems out, but last time I tried to move, she woke up…. Thank god for smart phones.
At OSH, Hazel thinks we need an owl for the yard

Hazel was nervous about the bear
Hooray

Hazel says hooray for reciprocal agreements. Only $7.50 to go the San Francisco zoo!
Boardwalk

Hazel and I are having a blast trying some of the rides at the Santa Cruz boardwalk.
I’m a taco.

We’re at the Santa Cruz surf contest, and Hazel keeps saying something that sounds very much like "I’m a taco!". Very excited, and with a big grin. No idea what it means, but it keeps making me laugh.“I’m a taco"
Zoo

We rode our bike to the zoo today. Hazel napped on the ride, then loved the zoo.
Yard work

Hazel is helping make garden markers for the seeds we are planting.
Climbing

Hazel climbed this structure to the top with no help. She was very, very excited at the top.
The Posse

Hazel has a posse. She wants them to go with her everywhere, and wants them in bed. She asks for them by name. Minnie, Eek Eek (a dolphin), and one of three human baby dolls that seem pretty interchangeable right now.
Hazel insists on helping at the grocery store.

She has been carrying this bag of onions all over the store, and gets upset if I take it away.
Hazel is already a Starbucks fan.

She is having half a whole wheat bagel for breakfast. She was very particular about what she wore today.
Hazel had her first face painting.

I asked her what she wanted, and she said "turdle".
Guess who found the sticker store?

Very excited about the “turdle” sticker’s. There were hundreds of stickers, but I asked Hazel which she wanted, and she picked out turtles.
Story time

I love storytime with Daddy. So do Dolly and Eek Eek. Hazel
Hazel loves the parachute at kidspace
Hazel doesn’t mess around with food.

She is very, very careful to clean her plate.
Somewhere between enthralled and overwhelmed

Parenting issues

There is probably no child rearing issue that Kim and I disagree on more often (mild, but frequent) than what to dress Hazel in. Kim -“I think she’s cold.” Me – “she’s fine.” Kim- “I’m putting a sweater on her” Me- “Kim, it’s 68, sunny, and she’s running around” Kim-” I’m wearing a down coat” […]
I love my little baby

This was taken while hazel was a month or two old, certainly way before she started raiding the snack pantry and asking for "help" with canned goods.
College applications? No, not yet.

Just coloring before dinner. Hazel hold a pencil and crayon surprisingly well thanks to Popo.
Hazel loves Eek Eek and feeding the animals.
Today, hazel insisted on wearing this hat. Backwards.

We wonder if she is a budding fashionista. At the park and when we are out, she loves pushing mom and dad away so that we don’t walk too close. Then she walks ahead, turns around to wave and grin widely, before turning back around to take more steps. Is this a budding independent steak? […]
A letter to Hazel, July 2012

Dear Hazel, Today is July 2, 2012. This letter has been a long time coming, but you see, with the remodeling and the move, and all the time spent just adoring you, your parents have been too busy documenting for posterity just how much we’ve been adoring you. Here are some milestones, thoughts, and impressions, […]
Planting

Katy, We did some planting too… Geoff [categories Hazel,DailyLife]
Sometimes my dad is SOooooo impatient.

Dear Zoe, I really like to dress myself. But its hard. I spent 10 minutes trying to get the tights on. I gave up, and tried to put a tshirt on, but something seemed wrong. My dad keeps trying to help, but I want to do it so I yell at him to stop. He […]
Swing

Hazel knows the word swing, but I didn’t recognize it fast enough. Finally did. She is happy now. Sent from my phone. Please forgive typos and brevity. [categories Hazel,DailyLife]
Hat hat hat

It took three outfits before I found one that she would wear without a tantrum. Sigh

Penguins

Hazel was feeding the penguin statues and loving it. She got her hand stamped as we left the aquarium, with a turtle. After dinner, she went to sleep in the car, so she had no bath that night. The next day, I was giving her a bath, and I washed off Hazel’s turtle handstamp. She’d […]
Aquarium

Hazel is loving her birthday gift. She is spending a lot longer at each exhibit, and doing lots of pointing and exclaiming. She also says fish (ishes) and turtle (turdle) now.

Hazel doesn’t quite “get” the crazy coupe

Just a cute picture of Hazel pretending to sleep.

Hazel now does quite a bit of pretend play. She’ll pretend to eat and drink food that isn’t there or “pick” berries off the picture in a grocery store flyer and feed them to us. Here, Kim suggested she close her eyes and pretend to sleep, and she did. Pretty fun to see.
Chairs in the air!

Dear Zoe, Today my mom and dad took me up the side of a mountain. They had these chairs that went in the air! In spots it was REALLY high, but my Dad said I was brave. He was holding my really, really tight. I kept pointing to the other side of the chair and […]
Favorite doll

Who knows if it will last, Hazel hasn’t really latched onto any toy for long, but for the last couple days she has been wanting to take the doll great-aunt Cathy gave her everywhere. =) [categories Hazel,DailyLife]
Samples

Dear Zoe, Normally when my dad takes me to Starbucks, I get milk or water, but today I got something called "samples". It just tasted like banana bread to me, but it was awesome. Love, Hazel [categories Hazel,DailyLife]
Making friends at Starbucks

Hazel and I stopped by Starbucks, sat outside watching the rain, when this little dog came and sat beside us. Hazel sat beside him, gently petting him. Reminded me of an old man and his dog sitting on the porch.
