Thanksgiving

Since the girls have the week off school, we normally try and travel for Thanksgiving. But Kim had some work and Margot had some party invites, so we hung out locally and I took the opportunity to make my first full thanksgiving meal in maybe 15+ years, and the first ever with the girls. Took the opportunity to try a few new recipes.

It turned out pretty exceptionally, if I do say so myself. Was fun to work with the girls.

Dry brined and spatchcocked turkey was juicy and delicious.

Made 2 types of stuffing, both of which were really good.

New recipes:

#35/52 – Green Beans with Maple pecans – super super yummy.

#36/52 – Roasted carrots with Honey Balsamic Herb butter

#37/52 – Thomas Keller Potatoes Pave – started these yesterday. Basically fancy scalloped potatoes. Kind of a fair bit of work for potatoes, but man they were delicious.

#38/52 Apple Pie – not new for me, but I taught Margot how to make it. Made with apples from our tree and it was delicious.

Had a fun Thanksgiving. Both girls dressed up, Hazel went with friends to trick or treat and have a sleepover. Kim and I met up with Margot and her friends and went trick or treating. Margot won a $20 gift card from a costume contest!

Lovely celebration in our little home. I’ve only cooked a few big holiday meals, and I think this was only my second time cooking for Christmas, and I enjoyed it a lot. Hazel made a delicious delicious gluten free chocolate cake. From scratch, not a

Kim’s birthday is this month, and since her mom has been out of the country I knew she’d be craving Asian dishes. It’s always a little intimidating cooking dishes that someone grew up with, especially when it’s not what you cook regularly. But I was

Our ornaments aren’t color coordinated or anything. We get most of them from my mom, who tries to get them to match interests, and we get many of them on our trips. Our first Christmases we had a tiny tree, and only a few ornaments

Margot is very excited to decorate for Christmas. Yesterday she decided to take a plain white ceramic dinosaur and make him into Santasaurus. The wings are so he can go help deliver presents. Santasaurus is now my favorite Christmas decoration
