A bit of a heartbreaker tournament this weekend. Margot’s team played a tournament in Costa Mesa. They played incredibly well. I’m so impressed by how hard they worked and how much they’ve improved in the last 4 months or so since all the turmoil occurred. They really came together and played incredibly well this weekend.
Saturday’s games went well. Won one and lost one. The win was a nail biter, with the lead swapping sides a few times. Even the loss was incredible in my mind, the girls held their own against a really skilled team that ended up winning the tournament.
Sunday lunch time they played in a game. The winner would make the finals. For the first time at a tournament we were really within spitting distance of making the final game.
They fought and battled. There was a bad ref call. A few shots that were so close.
The game ended tied. Coach told them he was rightfully so proud, but he thought it would go to the other team. He and a parent went to check while the parents and girls anxiously waited.
Apparently in a tie they go to the win-loss record, but that was tied too. So they go to the point spread in the other tournament games. That was also tied.
So they went to the number of points against. And that the other team won. So they got to play in the final and our girls did not.
Some tears were shed.
But I was so so so proud of them. They played so well. They battled. They fought. They did awesome.
We went out for a well earned ice cream after.
