Hazel loves listening to music. She’s been listening a lot to an up and coming artist named Emei.

Emei is pretty catchy, sort of Chappel Roan-ish with some Billie Eilish vibes, in the opinion of a nearly 50 year old man who still mostly listens to R.E.M. and the Talking heads.

Apparently Spotify noticed how much Hazel listens (she’s in the top 2% of her listeners, and local) so she got an invitation to sign up for free tickets to a promo event.

So last night Kim took her, Margot and Hazel’s friend. We had four tickets but I knew Hazels friend would appreciate it more than me. I drove and then hung out in a hotel lobby.

They had an amazing time. Some free cute sweatshirts from Coca cola (the sponsor). Kim estimated that there were only 50-75 people there. The girls were right up front, dancing and singing along. When they got to the meet and greet part, she apparently exclaimed how much she loved their energy when she was performing and gave them big hugs. They were thrilled. When I met them outside to drive home they were beaming and bouncing. On the drive home they were calling it the best night ever and talking about making a memory board for their rooms.

Kim was very impressed that Emei has a degree in Cognitive Science from Yale.

Hazels school has a fun tradition where at the end of 8th grade, students build and race cardboard boats. Only allowed materials are cardboard and duct tape. There was a wide, wide range of effort on show, including some that literally looked like they were

Margot loved making this turtle, from a kit she got from her grandparents at Christmas. She named the turtle Aitutaki, after the turtle we saw there on our trip a few weeks ago.

Margot had her last game for the fall league yesterday. They played incredibly well against a strong team and ended tied 3-3. It was a great season. They moved up a flight, and started the season with some losses. But they didn’t give up, they

Had a fun Thanksgiving. Both girls dressed up, Hazel went with friends to trick or treat and have a sleepover. Kim and I met up with Margot and her friends and went trick or treating. Margot won a $20 gift card from a costume contest!

Hazel has been working really hard at school this year. Soccer practice 4 days a week after school, volunteering, an AP class as a freshman, student newspaper, homework, etc. There have been some late evenings and skipping some family stuff to work. She’s been putting

Margot recently decided she wanted to crochet a chicken. She didn’t have a kit or instructions. She just looked at some pictures of chickens online for “inspo” and then made this up in her head then crocheted it. I’m amazed at how she just figures

Pulp and LCD Soundsystem Hazel loves Pulp. She was a little surprised to find out they are in their 60’s and that most of the crowd is my age or older, lol. We had a really great time at the concert. Kim and Margot decided
