Had a fun Thanksgiving. Both girls dressed up, Hazel went with friends to trick or treat and have a sleepover. Kim and I met up with Margot and her friends and went trick or treating. Margot won a $20 gift card from a costume contest!

Hazel has been working really hard at school this year. Soccer practice 4 days a week after school, volunteering, an AP class as a freshman, student newspaper, homework, etc. There have been some late evenings and skipping some family stuff to work. She’s been putting

Pulp and LCD Soundsystem Hazel loves Pulp. She was a little surprised to find out they are in their 60’s and that most of the crowd is my age or older, lol. We had a really great time at the concert. Kim and Margot decided

Hazel has her promotion from 8th grade tonight and Margot made her a card.

Dressed up for a fancy dance!

Hazels school has a fun tradition where at the end of 8th grade, students build and race cardboard boats. Only allowed materials are cardboard and duct tape. There was a wide, wide range of effort on show, including some that literally looked like they were

My little baker got up at 6 this morning and made cinnamon roll pancakes. I thought they were pretty delicious. Yesterday she made breakfast tacos. We also got dutch baby pancake s

Not a great picture, but this morning I woke up to the sound of someone working in the kitchen. A bit later Hazel bursts into the room proudly announcing “I made crepes!”

Hazel had her first game with the school soccer team. She played super well, especially considering it’s been 4+ months since she played a game.

We took the girls for the long promised and long overdue ear piercing, and then for some nice indian food after.

Hazel had a poetry assignment for school. They had to create a book with a certain number of different styles of poems, including haikus, cinquain, diamante, ballads, ode, and elegy.

If anyone eats gluten free or cooks for someone that does, highly recommend two things: 1) Get yourself the pictured cookbook. The recipes aren’t simple, they involve a lot of mixing your own flour blends, but they have all been fantastic. 2) Get yourself a

Hazel made the fluffiest lightest best cake I’ve had in the nearly 20 years I’ve been eating gluten free. Was delicious and you absolutely could have served it without mentioning the gf part and no one would have ever suspected. Really good, and carrot cake

It was very wet and rainy, but we had a nice time at the Houston zoo with Dad/Duckie. (My father, girls grandfather)

Lovely celebration in our little home. I’ve only cooked a few big holiday meals, and I think this was only my second time cooking for Christmas, and I enjoyed it a lot. Hazel made a delicious delicious gluten free chocolate cake. From scratch, not a

Our ornaments aren’t color coordinated or anything. We get most of them from my mom, who tries to get them to match interests, and we get many of them on our trips. Our first Christmases we had a tiny tree, and only a few ornaments

Hazel played fall AYSO this year, and had a good time with a good bunch of girls.

Hazel and I watched Dead Poets Society tonight. Tears were shed. Hazel cried too. Apparently in one of her videos for the album Tortured Poets Department, Taylor Swift had two of the stars from Dead Poets Society appear, as a deliberate shout out to the

Hazel loves listening to music. She’s been listening a lot to an up and coming artist named Emei. Emei is pretty catchy, sort of Chappel Roan-ish with some Billie Eilish vibes, in the opinion of a nearly 50 year old man who still mostly listens

The girls recently took a 4 day pottery class at a place in Pasadena. I’m really impressed with what they made!

At this point, Hazel is just as good at baking as me. Delicious homemade gluten free Cinnamon rolls. This weekend she made blondies and lemon curd cookies. No exaggeration I would put the lemon curd cookies in the top five cookies I’ve ever eaten.

MGA

I’ve been driving the MGA a fair bit lately, but since it only seats two it seems I’ve mostly been using it solo or taking Margot to soccer. Hazel loves the MG and has been asking for a drive so she and I went to

Hazel had a great time at this weeklong summer camp. The week ends with a live performance, where Hazel played the keyboard on one song and sang on another. https://www.schoolofrock.com/locations/pasadena

She’s very excited about it. Sorry for the cruddy lighting.

Hazel loved the terrain park, where they build jumps and things for doing tricks. She didn’t really jump, but she wanted to. She kept asking to go off some bigger jumps, but I wouldn’t let her. =)

Margot has discovered the "drop toys on the ground and cry until someone picks it up" game.

Hazel drew a picture of our family. As she draws, she keeps saying "I’m going to do a perfectly, perfectly good job" The bottom squiggles are grass, the mountains are mountains. I asked who the people in the lower right are, and she said "people

Nearly 6 hours for Hazel and I. 4.5ish for logan. Made it back to China Town. At one point we were at Atlantic and the 10 and I strongly considered just riding home. 🙂 Refueling the kids with meat pies from a bakery in China

5 hours for Hazel, with lots of stops. But still impressed Another 45 or so back to car
