I (Geoff) started a blog for my college outdoor club sometime around 1995 or so. Pretty early days of the WWW. In some form or another, I’ve been blogging about life and in particular adventures and the outdoors ever since. Some of the earliest stuff is forever lost, but I’ve hung onto some of it.
I’ve enjoyed sharing with friends and family who are spread around the world, and I’ve enjoyed having a digital journal of all of it.
In the late 1990’s I was pretty involved with the online usenet group, rec.climbing. Both online and in real life, I met and climbed with a bunch of folks, and got the nickname Texaskilonewton which became the first domain name I remember buying. When Kim and I got married, I bought this KimandGeoff.com domain name. When Hazel was born, I was sitting holding her in the hospital, and built a site to chronicle our adventures as new parents. I named it www.b.lueberry.com. Blueberry had been the nickname we used for the baby when she was so small we didn’t know a gender or name. I’ve used that title for the “family/daily life” portion of this site.
At various points I built and maintained a few other blogs. I tried my hand blogging about clean tech business, gardening, and about software and technology. Those sites are long dead. I’ve built dozens of websites over the years, and this website has gone through several major revamps. Because of that, there are some oddities. You’ll find this like picture galleries that change formats depending on the page. On some of the posts the pictures are tiny, back from the days when digital cameras sucked and data was precious for storage. I’ll try and go back and update as much as I can, but for now.
At some point, Facebook became the primary place I shared online, and I didn’t keep up with this site. But for various reasons a lot of folks aren’t using Facebook anymore, and I hate the idea that my memories are at the whim of Meta, so I am attempting to go back through and update and rebuild this site. I also merged the two sites into one, to lower the costs and make the upkeep easier.
It’s a slow process for sure, but take a look around. I’m lucky to have lived a very rich life full of amazing experiences and I hope you might enjoy seeing photos, videos and reading our stories.
This might be the grandkid photo dad would like. Hazel likes to do things with her fingers, like lace them or make different positions, and she always asks if we can do it. I didn’t quite know what to say when she proudly showed me
Hazel had an assignment to write a “narrative story” for school. The teacher told her to focus more on making the story exciting than worrying about accuracy, so some of the details are off a bit. But I liked the story. By Hazel: My Narrative
I’ve been back at work, and it’s been tough. Kim has made it a bit easier by sending me lots of updates. She sends me pictures from time to time, which makes me smile every time, and I really appreciate it. I still miss the
At the risk of jinxing this new routine, I have to say that in the last few weeks Hazel has started to sleep from around 9 pm to 1 to 3 am. This is a nice long stretch, and the longest stretch of the day.
Pictures from our trip to the San Diego wild animal park a few weeks ago. Hazel had a great time. Margot slept a lot. Super neat place. Lot’s of walking. I didn’t take a ton of pictures, my hands were full much of the day.
Hazel loved the terrain park, where they build jumps and things for doing tricks. She didn’t really jump, but she wanted to. She kept asking to go off some bigger jumps, but I wouldn’t let her. =)
It is Thanksgiving Day. My infant daughter, my mom, and I stand gathered around my grandma in her wheelchair to take a photograph that winds through four generations. My mom holds my baby in her arms, while my arms rest by my grandma. The flash
Video from my recent Grand Canyon trip with my 11 year daughter. Her second time down the canyon, and she has done other big river trips. But I was nervous because she was the only kid on the trip, other trips she has at least
Hazel had a great time at this weeklong summer camp. The week ends with a live performance, where Hazel played the keyboard on one song and sang on another. https://www.schoolofrock.com/locations/pasadena
This was taken while hazel was a month or two old, certainly way before she started raiding the snack pantry and asking for "help" with canned goods.
Dear Hazel, Today is July 2, 2012. This letter has been a long time coming, but you see, with the remodeling and the move, and all the time spent just adoring you, your parents have been too busy documenting for posterity just how much we’ve
New Zealand had long been on my wish list for places to visit, and it certainly met my expectations. We had a wonderful couple weeks there, including visiting my dear old friend and getting to spend some awesome time with my cousin and his family.
