About This Site

I  (Geoff) started a blog for my college outdoor club sometime around 1995 or so.  Pretty early days of the WWW.  In some form or another, I’ve been blogging about life and in particular adventures and the outdoors ever since. Some of the earliest stuff is forever lost, but I’ve hung onto some of it.

I’ve enjoyed sharing with friends and family who are spread around the world, and I’ve enjoyed having a digital journal of all of it.

In the late 1990’s I was pretty involved with the online usenet group, rec.climbing. Both online and in real life, I met and climbed with a bunch of folks, and got the nickname Texaskilonewton which became the first domain name I remember buying. When Kim and I got married, I bought this KimandGeoff.com domain name. When Hazel was born, I was sitting holding her in the hospital, and built a site to chronicle our adventures as new parents.  I named it www.b.lueberry.com.   Blueberry had been the nickname we used for the baby when she was so small we didn’t know a gender or name. I’ve used that title for the “family/daily life” portion of this site.

At various points I built and maintained a few other blogs.  I tried my hand blogging about clean tech business, gardening, and about software and technology.  Those sites are long dead.  I’ve built dozens of websites over the years, and this website has gone through several major revamps.  Because of that, there are some oddities.  You’ll find this like picture galleries that change formats depending on the page. On some of the posts the pictures are tiny, back from the days when digital cameras sucked and data was precious for storage.  I’ll try and go back and update as much as I can, but for now.

At some point, Facebook became the primary place I shared online, and I didn’t keep up with this site. But for various reasons a lot of folks aren’t using Facebook anymore, and I hate the idea that my memories are at the whim of Meta, so I am attempting to go back through and update and rebuild this site. I also merged the two sites into one, to lower the costs and make the upkeep easier.

It’s a slow process for sure, but take a look around.  I’m lucky to have lived a very rich life full of amazing experiences and I hope you might enjoy seeing photos, videos and reading our stories.

After a great trip to Moorea a few years ago, we decided to head back and visit some of the other islands in the chain. IT was wonderful and included Hazel’s first scuba dives after certification, and Margot really getting into snorkeling. It’s always hard

Last night Hazel threw an epic tantrum. Like a half hour of screaming. I tried everything. Ignoring. Sympathizing. When she hit me, I took away a toy. Then I said, “ok, Hazel, only good girls get to go Starbucks. If you keep yelling, I’m taking

Our first fantastic trip to Mo'orea, in French Polynesia, just a short ferry ride from Tahiti.

It was a tough decision coming up with a name. We both had some desires, some things that we wanted included. I wanted to honor my Grandpa. Although I love and hold dear all my grandparents, my paternal step-grandfather was always particularly special to me.

Video from my recent Grand Canyon trip with my 11 year daughter. Her second time down the canyon, and she has done other big river trips. But I was nervous because she was the only kid on the trip, other trips she has at least

I thought I’d take a photo. Doh. I swear, she was still on when I clicked the shutter.

I asked Hazel to look up, but she said, “I’m too, too, too, too busy” She repeats words for emphasis a lot, which I find pretty cute. The other day she was talking about an elephant and I thing she said about 15 “great”s before

We picked some of our cauliflower the other day. I forget the name of the variety, but it has a cool purple hue to it. I was taking pictures of it inside, and Hazel asked to be in the picture. While we were taking pictures,

Dear Zoe, Last night, my mom showed me chopsticks. Apparently people from Asia, where my mom’s side of the family is from, use them to eat, instead of a fork. I found it hard. Sometimes I got food into my mouth, which was cause for

The Middle Fork of the Feather is described in the classic CA paddling guidebook as “This is it! The Middle Fork of the Feather River is the best wilderness self-support trip in California.”  It is one of the original “Wild and Scenic ” designated rivers.
