We had a fantastic trip down desolation canyon in Utah. Due to craziness at work we drove literally through the night to get there on our launch day, and launched in the afternoon Friday. We spent a glorious full week on the river, doing some hikes, tons of swimming, and just enjoying being out there. Took out the following satruday. It was super fun to watch all the kids play and enjoy themselves. Desolation is great, like a kid sized Grand Canyon, with similar terrain but scaled down rapids and length. The camps were great, we ate well, and had a great great time. My boat was often carrying 7 people, 4 of them kids, and was filled often with songs. I loved it.
Weather was not as brutally hot as I expected, but we did have significant haze from wildfires I presume, and one night we could see the glow from a fire, and the next day we saw firefighter helicopters at work.
This was my third trip down Desolation, And I’ve loved each of them.
Went with my friend Paige O’Connell, her kids, and my friend Gary Alan Hall and his family.
