Cardboard Boat Race

Hazels school has a fun tradition where at the end of 8th grade, students build and race cardboard boats. Only allowed materials are cardboard and duct tape. There was a wide, wide range of effort on show, including some that literally looked like they were done this morning to some that looked like they had many hours and enough spent on duct tape that a real kayak might have been cheaper. I failed to get photos of some of the coolest boats.

As someone who has spent much of my life messing around with small paddle powered boats, it was very hard to stay out of it but I can tell you I had virtually no input in Hazel’s team boat. Also, I feel like a short lesson in paddling would have gone a long long way for some of the boats
