The South Fork American is a damn controlled stretch of river, frequently broken into three main runs, Chili Bar, Coloma to Lotus, and the Gorge. Of course, there are other ways to do it, but those are the most common terms you’ll hear. With easy access and reliable planned recreational releases in all but California’s driest years, it’s a staple of California paddling.
