This trip started on a bit of a bad start. My post from Facebook.

I messed up and ruined our vacation and feel absolutely crushed and devastated and stupid.

Didn’t notice that Hazel’s passport is less than 6 months from expiration. Philippines won’t let you in without 6 months before passport expiration.

Got turned away at the airport. Out a big chunk of change and scrambling to figure out a plan B and just pissed and sad and feel sick to my stomach. Had been really really looking forward to this.

Got home late, like 1 a.m. Girls and Kim went to bed morose. I stayed up all night, planning and rebooking and at 6:30 a.m. I was waking them with the surprise news that I had rebooked (at considerable expense) a trip to Hawaii instead. Not what we planned but we had a great time.

When our planned trip to the Philippines fell apart and we needed a last minute pivot, I had promised Margot Sea turtles, and that was part of what guided us to Hawaii. This spot delivered for sure.

With our trip being extremely last minute, and Hawaii being busy, just about every activity I called about was booked solid. But I found a discover scuba for two people and signed Kim and Hazel up. When Hazel had gone to Catalina with me to do her open water class, she had trouble doing a […]

After years of dreaming, Kim and I finally returned to Rarotonga, where we indulged in scuba diving and delicious local cuisine. Our adventure continued as we flew to Aitutaki, where the breathtaking lagoon and vibrant marine life left us in awe.

Although we spent much of our time on this trip in the water, we also enjoyed some great meals, an awesome fire show, fun markets, and just exploring.

When I heard about the April 8, 2024 Eclipse, I knew we wanted to go. I’d never seen a total eclipse. The fact that it would go nearly straight over my brother’s place in Texas made it an even easier decision. When I checked the

A quick day visit to Arches, with a hike to the famous delicate Arch.

This was a literal bucket list item for me, to swim with whale sharks. I’ve been thinking about it for decades. It was incredible. Hard to capture the size of these sharks. These are juvenile, but whale sharks are the largest fish around. These were

An absolutely amazing trip. In early December I made the long drive to Cabo San Lucas, stopping just for gas, food, and sleep. Left the van at a storage place and flew home. After going to Texas for Christmas, we flew from there back to

Exploring two new islands in French Polynesia, and a return to a favorite.

Super nice weekend at Catalina Island. Feel lucky to live where we do. Be sure to check out the videos from the Zipline and from Hazel’s SCUBA certification
